Climb the English 3000s for Meningitis charity
14 January 2010
The Meningitis Trust – the UK’s only charity to offer a range of free professional services and community based support for people affected by meningitis – has launched a new challenge event on September 9 – 12, 2010 and one of its Ambassador’s ex-Liverpool footballer, Ian Rush is supporting this adrenaline junkies dream challenge.
The English 3000s – trek the Lake District is set in the famous Lake District National Park which is home to eight notable 3000ft peaks - the Meningitis Trust is planning to tackle them all in one weekend.
Steve Williams, Event Organiser at the Meningitis Trust, says: “The new challenge is a real endurance test with each mountain providing a mental, as well as physical challenge. The feeling of exhilaration on completion is worth every step, though! All funds raised through the challenge will provide an immediate benefit for the thousands of people whose lives have been affected by meningitis, so come on, give it a go! With Ian backing the event, we are hoping to fill the strictly limited number of 50 spaces very quickly.”
Ian Rush, Trust Ambassador, says: “This is a fantastic event and I feel privileged to be able to put my name to the first English 3000s that the Trust will organise. I am sure that it will be a success. It will be a real endurance test but I am sure it will be worth the effort”.
It promises to be a great experience. Accommodation and some of your meals, as well as the services of a fully qualified and very experienced safety team (who will escort you throughout the challenge), are provided.
If you are interested in taking part on your own, with a group of friends or colleagues, visit www.meningitis-trust.org/walking/English3000s.html, call Steve Williams at the Trust on 01453 769024, or email stevew@meningitis-trust.org.
