Lace up for a great race!
12 January 2010The Meningitis Trust is appealing to local people in the North West who have a confirmed place in the BUPA Great Manchester Run to run for the charity as a volunteer runner.
You will be running with 33,000 others on Sunday May 16, 2010, raising vital sponsorship for the Meningitis Trust – which is the UK’s primary provider of professional services and community-based support for people affected by meningitis – helping the thousands of people who have been, and continue to be, affected by the disease.
It is one of the world’s fastest growing running events and Britain’s premier 10K. You will take in the sights of Manchester City Centre and Salford Quays - a fantastic atmosphere for the thousands of runners taking part.
In exchange the Trust will offer one of the best run packages available, which includes a free personalised running vest or T-shirt, race pack (with training and dietary advice), fundraising support and encouragement from our dedicated team, regular marathon information updates and motivation from our supporters along the route.
Christine Hughes, Community Development Officer, North West says: “The event offers a fantastic personal fitness challenge and will also be a great local day out for runners and supporters. The BUPA Great Manchester Run is one of the shorter BUPA runs over flat ground and is an ideal event if this is your first road run.”
The Meningitis Trust needs constant help to raise money to pay for the professional services and community support it provides, which is a lifeline for people affected by meningitis. It offers practical, emotional and financial support through its range of free support services. More than 20,000 people are helped by the Meningitis Trust each year. With as many as 500,000 people living in the UK today who have had either viral or bacterial meningitis; its ongoing work is much-needed.
The charity is also committed to raising awareness of the disease and produces a range of awareness information materials, such as a handy credit card sized signs and symptoms card. The cards are available FREE by calling the Trust’s freephone 24-hour helpline on 0800 028 18 28 and are designed to be kept in people’s purses and wallets at all times.
