Leisure centre to take on 12 hour cycle challenge

Managers at the Taro Leisure Centre in Petersfield are set to get pedalling for charity next week as they take on a marathon 12 hour sponsored cycle. Despite their efforts, the team will not be travelling far, as the challenge will be completed entirely on exercise bikes at the leisure centre. Twelve members of staff, including managers and fitness instructors, will cycle continuously in relay from 9am to 9pm on Thursday September 24 to raise money for the Meningitis Trust.

Local drummer Paul Holden from Maltby is hoping to raise funds for the Meningitis Trust and Cancer Research UK by undertaking a music marathon on Bank Holiday Sunday, 24 May. Paul will kick off the event at the Number 10 Bar, Rotherham at 5pm drumming with the first band he joined, Wig, and then with every other band on the bill until late in the evening.

Runners who join the Meningitis Trust team on 31 May 2009 can choose to use their single charity place to run the race individually, or as a four-person relay.

Meningitis Trust unveil new memorial garden

The Meningitis Trust – the UK’s longest established meningitis charity – last week unveiled its new Memorial Garden at its Head Office in Stroud. Supporters who have lost a loved one to meningitis were invited to the opening, with many planting wooden name pegs in memory of the ones they have lost to the disease.
