Would you like to take a walk with a difference?
8 June 2010
The Meningitis Trust is appealing for walkers to join forces on August 21 for a Saturday afternoon stroll with a difference - a sponsored walk across the sands of Morecambe Bay to raise funds for the charity.
The eight-mile walk, which is led by the Queen’s Official Guide to the Sands, Mr Cedric Robinson, starts at the Arnside Promenade at 4.00pm and meanders across the bay, eventually arriving at Kents Bank Station, Grange-over-Sands at approximately 7.00pm.
Around 53,800 people living in the North West of England could be struggling to cope with the life changing after-effects of meningitis – and every year another 970 people in the area could find themselves fighting the impact of the devastating disease.
The Trust asks that participants raise as much sponsorship as they can. For more information, please call Christine Hughes at the Meningitis Trust on 0845 120 4764 for a registration pack. Registration costs £5 for adults, £2 for children and just £1 for canine companions.
Money raised will help fund the Trust’s services including professional counselling, financial support grants, art therapy and a 24-hour freephone nurse-staffed helpline 0800 028 18 28. The Meningitis Trust is completely reliant on voluntary donations to continue its work.
