London

Community Development Officers Emma Lowther, Jo Kennedy and Amy Greengrass.

Hello, we're your team of local Community Development Officers for London and Greater London.

We offer support to local people whose lives have been touched by meningitis and also work with supporters of the Trust to raise funds through a range of fundraising activities.

Raising awareness of the Trust and the disease is also a key part of our role, so we regularly visit local community groups to give talks and also work with local media.

If I can help out with anything you are planning, or if you need more information about the work of the Trust, then please do get in touch.

Jazz CD coverJazz CD sold in aid of the Trust

Phil Barley, from London has put together a Jazz vocal with trio accompaniment CD to raise funds for the Trust. After a successful sell-out gig at Ronnie Scott's Bar in May 2008 where he launched the CD, he decided to offer it up for sale to increase the amount raised on the night. The CD includes: Come Rain or Come Shine, You Don't Know Me, The Best is Yet to Come and All of me. Please click the link to Phil's online 'shop' where you can purchase the CD: http://www.philbarley.com/pb/Shop.aspx

Thanks to everyone involved in this great fundraising idea.

Run to the Beat!Tracy Bliss

Supporter, Tracy Bliss, undertook a personal challenge recently and ran in the ‘Run to the Beat’
half marathon in London.

Says Tracy of her experience: “With heavy rain all night and morning, transport problems with planned works and unplanned breakdowns, a one hour journey took us over two! Not a good start. The race was delayed from 9.45am to 10.30am, by which time, some people were very wet already. After only the first mile, it was like running on wet sponges! My ambition was not to stop, which I achieved. With a knee going at 7 miles, you'd think downhill after large uphills (well they seemed large) would be a blessing, but, by now, both knees were in agony and more painful going down.

I finished the race in approximately 2hrs 35mins, with over £800 raised for the Meningitis Trust. Altogether, a satisfactory achievement and one that I am proud to have done for the Trust.”

If you are interested in taking part in the 2009 ‘Run to the Beat’ Half Marathon on September 27, 2009, please get in touch.
