In 2007, over 40 women from all over Ireland ran in the 25th Women’s Mini Marathon on behalf of the Meningitis Trust. In 2008, with the help of National Irish Bank, we’re hoping to smash that record!
Offical entry forms for the race will not be available until March, but you can register your intention to run for the Meningitis Trust right now. The 10k (6.2 miles) race starts at 3pm in city centre Dublin, and official entry forms for the race will be available in the Evening Herald or at www.womensminimarathon.ie from early March.
The race is open to women only, aged 14 or above. The entry fee is €22 with timing chip, and €15 without timing chip. Participants can run, jog or walk, and wheelchair and visually-impaired entrants are also welcome. More information via www.womensminimarathon.ie
This is the second running of this 26.2 mile road race, open to individuals and teams of up to 5 runners. The course will start and finish on St Patrick’s Street and will cover a clockwise circuit of the city suburbs, stepping into the country from time to time.

The 27th running of the Cork Mini Marathon takes place on 28 September. It is a women-only race, and in previous years, over 7,000 women have participated.
The race has been run by the AAI (Athletics Association of Ireland) and the Evening Echo every year since it started. Over a distance of 4 miles, no pressure is put on anyone, they can walk, jog or run the race in the early Autumn afternoon. In 2007, the entry fee was €11.

The Limerick Mini Marathon takes place in October (date to be confirmed), usually at 2pm over a 4.5 mile course at the University of Limerick.
This will be the 11th running of this event and up to 4,000 competitors are expected, making it the single biggest sporting event in Limerick. Those taking part in include serious runners, walkers, wheelchairs, people with buggys and even some men in drag, making it a fun day for everybody. Ages range from 15 to 80 years.
Posters and sponsorship cards are available for all groups taking part, from the Irish Examiner office 89 O’Connell Street, Limerick. Entry forms are published in the Irish Examiner every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and in Feel Good on Fridays in September.
Entry fee in 2007 was €10.00 – 2008 fee to be announced.

This is the 26th year of the Dublin Marathon, which begins at 9am and runs through the historic Georgian city streets. Entry is open to those aged 18 or over and up to 10,000 runners are expected to take part in the single lap race, which begins in Nassau Street and finishes in Merrion Square West. Finishers will receive a medal, t-shirt and photos.
A 5k family fun run will begin immediately after the marathon, and to register to run in either event in aid of the Meningitis Trust, runners should first register with the race organisers at www.dublincitymarathon.ie to secure their place.
