Financial grants and practical help

We offer financial support grants to UK residents who have had an experience of meningitis.

Meningitis Trust grants can help pay for things such as specialist equipment, therapy, travel and accommodation costs for hospital visits, training, funeral expenses and headstones.

We are the only meningitis charity in the UK to give financial support in this way.

Why do we provide financial support grants?

Meningitis can have a devastating impact on all aspects of life. The financial impact of the disease is often significant and we know that unexpected financial pressures can be a huge additional burden to many individuals and families.

Our financial support grants can help reduce the associated stress and anxiety, as well as provide vital support when it’s needed most of all. You can apply for a maximum of two grants each year to help meet your needs.

Pearl and Cliff Davey’s son, Gregory, had meningitis when he was two weeks old in 1990:

“Meningitis left Gregory totally dependent on others for all his needs. Thanks to the Meningitis Trust’s financial support grant service, we are lucky to have respite care to help us in the summer.”

How can I apply for a grant?

Grant applications will require a third party representative and written confirmation of diagnosis. Full details are included in the application pack.

If you are not sure whether you are eligible to apply for a grant, please contact our helpline before making an application.

Our financial support grants panel meets each month to consider and approve applications. All applicants are informed immediately of the decision. We aim to award all eligible applications and will give support in making a suitable application.
