We fund counselling, wheelchairs, speech therapy, specialist equipment and more. But we can't without donations. Please help.

Creative Therapies

Following an experience of meningitis many children will not want to talk about what has happened to them, but changes in their behaviour, sleeping, eating, interaction with others will suggest that they are experiencing some form of emotional distress.

Access to a creative therapy which can help them express their feelings in a gentle, supportive environment, can be very helpful.  We can make a referral to a professional therapist who can use art, play, drama or music to help your child make sense of what has happened.  This can also be very helpful for siblings, who may be experiencing the impact of the disease on their own lives.  Find out more on our Support Services Factsheet.

Learning and development

Meningitis can have an impact on a child’s learning, development and behaviour and we are here to help support you and your family with any concerns you may have.   Find out more on our Learning and Development Factsheet.

Many families feel that the educational needs of their child following meningitis are not fully understood and can be overlooked.  Many families have benefitted from arranging a meeting at school where one of our Community Support Officers can talk about meningitis, the impact it can have and the resources available to help support children dealing with the impact of meningitis more adequately.  If you have concerns and would like to talk to someone to arrange a school contact your local support officer.
