Mike Simpson along with his friends Martin Harbiher, Mike Mallen, Sam Beckett and Jason Allison and are going to run 84 miles along Hadrian’s Wall non-stop, in under 24 hours this July. They are all runners with Crook and District Athletics Club where several of them have been busy training for marathons as 'warm ups' for the wall run. The decision to run the wall in under 24 hours came from a desire to do something challenging to raise money for the Meningitis Trust.
Mike Simpson's son Jacob had meningitis at the age of 11 months, but he made a full recovery and is now a happy and healthy 6 year old which Mike says is "thanks in a large part to the work of the Trust in raising awareness of the symptoms of meningitis" Mike also says that "many others are not so fortunate, and if they survive, the disease can have severe lasting effects on them"
The teams target is to raise £5,000 and they have set up a Virgin Money Giving page along with other fundraising initiatives to achieve this. We would like to wish Mike and the team all the best in what is sure be an extremely tough and challenging 84 miles! Pictured below is Mike and his son Jacob.
