About The Trust
History of the Trust
Page 1
Much has happened since we became a registered charity in 1986. Whilst our head office remains in our original birthplace in Gloucestershire, we now have staff based throughout the UK. Sister charities in Ireland and New Zealand were formed in 2001.

Some highlights of the last 21 years:

1985 Parents in Stroud form a local support group following the outbreak of meningitis in Stroud and Stonehouse.
1986 The Trust becomes a registered charity in the UK and awards its first research grant to the University of Edinburgh.
1988 The Trust funds its first major research project. This research plays a major part in the development and introduction of the Hib Vaccine in 1992.
1989 Princess Diana becomes the Trust’s President.
1990 Launch of our 24 hour helpline.
1992 Hib vaccine is introduced, supported by the Trust, resulting in significant reduction in the incidence of the Hib strain of bacterial meningitis.
1993 'First symptoms' cards are introduced and now, 15 years on, we are still distributing around 1 million of these life-saving cards a year.
