A free conference that explored the impact of meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia.

Glasgow ConferenceOn Wednesday February 17, the Meningitis Trust held its first Scottish conference at The Mitchell Library, Glasgow.

The conference looked at the wide range of after-effects and outcomes of meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia. It also highlighted the importance of specialist follow up and support, to help those affected rebuild their lives.

Delegates that attended include medical and public health staff, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, medical and nursing students.

The stimulating and thought provoking afternoon benefited from contributions by;

Imperial College and St Mary’s Hospital, and Medical Director of the Meningitis Trust.
Miss Mary Shanks – Surgical director of the Scottish Cochlear Implant Programme.
Dr Deborah Christie – Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Lead for psychological services University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr Jeff Lindsay – Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine and Andrew Sharp – Principal Prosthetist
West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre
Dr Ewan B Macdonald OBE – Head of the Healthy Working Lives Research Group and
Dr Sarah Mitchell – Programme Manager for the Delivery Framework for Adult Rehabilitation
