Get to know the Meningitis Trust

Meningitis strikes in an instant, but the impact lasts a lifetime. The Meningitis Trust is here to ensure that everyone whose life has been affected by meningitis gets access to the support that they need, where they need it and for as long as they need it.

As the oldest meningitis charity in the world, our unparalleled range of professional services and community support has been developed using our extensive knowledge of the devastating impact of this disease.

Saving lives

Very often life is never the same after meningitis strikes; for the individual or their family. The Meningitis Trust gives them the strength to rebuild their lives through our unique range of free services and our local support network. Once meningitis strikes, we cannot change what has happened but we give them ways of taking control of their lives once again.

With vaccines the only form of prevention of meningitis, we actively support safe and effective vaccines, and work to ensure the early introduction of vaccines as they are available. But there will never be vaccines for all forms of meningitis and people must remain vigilant.

Making a difference

Since the Meningitis Trust started in 1986, millions of people have been helped. Just think for a minute – if the Meningitis Trust had not been here for people:

  • £1.5m in financial grants would not have helped people to rebuild their lives after meningitis
  • Thousands of people would not have been able to turn to our counselling & art therapy services to enable them to understand and move forward after meningitis strikes
  • Lives would have been lost as the 20 million symptoms cards the Meningitis Trust has distributed would not have existed

With no central Government funding, the Meningitis Trust is dependent on voluntary donations to continue our work and achieve our vision. Meningitis will never go away - and we are determined that, with your help, the Meningitis Trust will never go away either.
